چکیده

I n a very important paper published recently in the Hellenic Journal of Cardiology,1 the authors described a 52-year-old female patient with no history and no predisposing factors for coronary artery disease, who developed chest pain with electrocardiographic changes suggesting coronary artery spasm following capecitabine administration for colorectal cancer. The authors of this report attributed this reaction to capecitabine cardiotoxicity, endothelial activation, thrombogenic effects and autoimmune phenomena. However, it seems likely that this patient had suffered capecitabine-induced hypersensitivity reaction, culminating in hypersensitivity-associated acute coronary syndrome, the so called Kounis syndrome.2

Kounis syndrome: an update on epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapeutic management.

Kounis syndrome has been established as a hypersensitivity coronary disorder induced by various conditions, drugs, environmental exposures, foods and coronary stents. Allergic, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions are associated with this syndrome. Vasospastic allergic angina, allergic myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis with occluding thrombus infiltrated by eosino...

Kounis syndrome: A primary cause for the anaphylactic shock.

In the important paper of Kuda et al. [1] published in ”Cardiology Journal” it was found that vasospasm-induced coronary flow reduction is a major contributory factor in anaphylactic ventricular dysfunction. The authors concluded that during anaphylaxis the ensuing left ventricular dysfunction is attributed mainly to coronary vasoconstriction-induced myocardial ischemia. These and other experim...

The Kounis-Zavras syndrome with the Samter-Beer triad.

We present a case of Kounis-Zavras syndrome in the setting of aspirin-induced asthma, or the Samter-Beer triad of asthma, nasal polyps, and aspirin allergy. The Kounis-Zavras syndrome, also known as Kounis syndrome, leads to angina pectoris or acute coronary syndrome secondary to coronary vasospasm in response to an allergic stimulus, leading to mast-cell degranulation of vasospastic mediators....

Kounis syndrome is hypersensitivity coronary disorder induced by various types of environmental exposures, drugs, conditions and stents. The disorder manifests as coronary spasms, acute myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis and affects the cerebral and mesenteric as well as coronary arte...

Acute coronary syndrome secondary to allergic coronary vasospasm (Kounis Syndrome): a case series, follow-up and literature review.

BACKGROUND Kounis syndrome (KS) is the concurrence of acute coronary syndrome associated with mast-cell and platelet activation in the setting of hypersensitivity and allergic or anaphylactic insults. Many drugs and environmental exposures had been reported as inducers, but various inducers and the mechanism of KS remained unknown till now. The widely used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as ...
